Build your own high-end digital piano

Live Grand can be used with an existing digital piano or combined with a MIDI keyboard controller to build a dedicated computer-based piano system.

If you already own a digital piano, you can upgrade it simply by connecting it to your computer. When building a new system, a MIDI keyboard controller without built-in sound generation can significantly reduce the overall cost. The Kawai VPC1, for example, is a dedicated piano controller with wooden keys and hammer action, making it particularly well suited to a computer-based piano setup.

For a natural playing response, the MIDI velocity characteristics of the keyboard must be precisely matched to the sampled piano. Live Grand therefore includes measured velocity calibrations for a wide range of keyboard actions and digital pianos. Unlike a generic velocity curve, these calibrations are based on measurements of the actual keyboard response, allowing the dynamics of Live Grand to be matched more precisely to the instrument being played.
