Many high-quality piano sample libraries were originally designed for music production rather than live playing. Live Grand remastering transforms suitable existing recordings into virtual piano instruments optimized for realistic practice and live performance.

We create a dedicated player-perspective microphone mix, optimize the samples using AI-assisted batch processing, and integrate them into the Live Grand engine with features such as low-latency performance, precise keyboard calibration, advanced pedal behavior and adaptive release samples.

This allows both current and older high-quality piano libraries to benefit from modern processing and the performance-oriented technology developed for Live Grand.

We can remaster suitable recordings and integrate them into the Live Grand engine, combining your original samples with our technology for low-latency performance, precise keyboard calibration, advanced pedal behavior and natural articulation.

A prerequisite is that the available microphone recordings can be mixed to create a realistic sound from the pianist's perspective. New remastering projects are developed for Kontakt 8 or newer.

Remastering can be provided for a fixed fee or as part of a partnership in exchange for a percentage of sales revenue. This can be particularly interesting for older libraries with high-quality recordings, giving them a second life on modern systems.

Paul Bittmann

Paul is a freelance composer for film and games, working with orchestral and electronic palettes, as well as sound design elements. Since the age of 5, Paul has actively played the piano, and saxophone, and sang in choirs, which led to a focus on performance and competition during his teenage years. After high school, he shifted his focus and completed a bachelor's degree in computer science at RWTH Aachen. During this time, he developed an interest in audio systems and music implementation, creating "Game Sonar," an audio-based accessibility tool for gamers with visual impairments.

Throughout his college years, Paul produced and wrote his own original music, which led him to attend Berklee College of Music for a Professional Certificate in Composition. During the same period, Paul joined Dominik at MAS to build an authentic virtual piano, helping performers master their instrument from the comfort of their home without compromising sound or playability.

Dominik Schulte

Dominik Schulte is a pianist, piano teacher, software developer and co-founder of Live Grand. He studied computer science at RWTH Aachen University and has worked as a freelance programmer and piano teacher since completing his basic studies.

His musical education began at the age of nine and included piano, organ, clarinet, saxophone and voice. During his computer science studies, he further developed his piano playing with Professor Cortes in Cologne, studying the modern improvisation approach of the internationally renowned Berklee College of Music with a focus on rock, blues and jazz.

The idea for Live Grand originated in Dominik's own teaching studio. His goal was to transform the digital grand piano in the teaching room into an instrument that could reproduce the playing experience of a Steinway Model D as closely as possible. He modified the instrument's hardware, including its keyboard and sound system, and subsequently developed dedicated software to match its response and sound to the characteristics of a concert grand.

This project became the foundation of Live Grand. Combining his experience as a pianist with his background in software development and AI, Dominik developed the technical concepts behind Live Grand, including precise keyboard calibration, low-latency performance, advanced piano modeling and AI-assisted sample processing.
